From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in power within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of characters who will split off from the primary party to begin their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might seem out of place, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
First, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, invading the secret base, assaulting the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The antagonist then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each member has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a nasty place.
- The strong character and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
- Yet, their position as important members in the powerful family could help the team enter areas they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and Wicander defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the clan.
This means them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in search of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Seekers and Strategists groups.
Audiences can look forward to discovering which characters will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
